Congratulations to Elaine Abraham and Selina Everson

Both recognized for their commitments to community
Sealaska is proud of our tribal member shareholders who see the value of contributing to the community.

In February 2011 Elaine Abraham of Yakutat was inducted into the Alaska Women’s Hall of Fame. Abraham was honored for achievements in health and education and recognized as the first Tlingit registered nurse in Alaska. During her career she worked for the Indian Health Service in Juneau, Mt. Edgecumbe and Bethel through the diphtheria and tuberculosis epidemics.

On March 12, 2011 Selina Everson was honored by AWARE, Inc. and recognized during the organization’s annual Women of Distinction event. Each year AWARE celebrates women who demonstrate a commitment to improving the quality of life for women and children in Juneau. Everson was recognized for her work teaching the Tlingit language for the past five years in elementary schools and her work with the Alaska Native Sisterhood.

Both women carry and uphold traditional values like Wooch.éen (people working together) that make our communities stronger and richer. Gunalchéesh, Háw’aa, Doyck’shin!
